p.s. Kamilaroi, I guess I should make myself aware of what species of snake are in my neighbourhood but when I had just moved to Spain in 2002 and saw a 5 foot brown one sunning itself on my terrace I didnīt first consult the "Snakes of Spain" book, I chopped itīs head off with a shovel ! Turned out it was harmless but I still have the skin on the mantlepiece, better safe than sorry
