As I understand it, in Germany the .243 is considered only suitable for roe deer. It lacks the performance required for a hunting rifle cartridge for heavier game such as red deer, wild boar and bear. In this country (USA), where there are generally no such restrictions, the .243 with heavy weight bullets is considered adequate for white tail deer, antelope and black bear. I would personally prefer something more substantial for wild boar, elk and moose.

If your country's hunting laws have caliber restrictions, I would consult them before investing in a .243.

The cartridge is superbly accurate at ranges out to 600 yards, but 300 yards should be the maximum hunting range, in my opinion. This would be with the heaviest bullets available (95-100 grain).
