There are definitely Sambar on the Pensinsula of many varied names. They're (generally) smaller and a lighter colour than their southern bretheren and stags have a more consistent but lighter rack. Not much is known about their potential and as far as I know nobody promoted hunting them - though I've never researched it. There's been a few individuals shoot the odd one over the years and report that they're just as capable and worthy as their cousins in VIC/NSW. It is my understanding that one can be invited to join in on Banteng hunts outside the areas used by guides, but it helps to be a cousin of the residents - as at least one member here knows well. |
