I've used a Spear - and a Machete thrown, spear was 3 prongs and worked.

Machete made a deep cut and you had to jump quick to grab it
as sometimes the Carp would wriggle away (or try to).

If you swamp was low in water, they can collect all together in the shallows, especially when sunny.
