There's a number of options for the government; Simple cull, which can be done much more cheaply if you're going to let them rot. You can get away with a small helicopter that only needs to carry the shooter & pilot. Cull & Recover, which requires a helicopter that will lift any camel shot. This will typically be 3x as expensive as the simple cull. Muster, which can go back to the simple cull size helicopter. This is done in small scale, generally for live export, but camels are regarded as "difficult" to muster. The only reason for this is that their psychology is different to cattle, so if you treat them like cattle they won't respond. If mustered, they can either be slaughtered or exported or combination thereof. Of course there is the obvious recreational hunting option, but are we really going to get enough numbers by that method? Possibly not, but it would certainly reduce the cost of the other options. |
