Possible buff hunt

Hi guys my brother and I may soon be able to have a hunt for a buff, and seeing as I have no experience with them I thought I'd ask some questions here, so if they are silly please bear with me as stated I have yet to even see a buff in the wild.

I have a .416 Rigby which I plan on using, however I am not sure which bullets to load. Would I be better off loading both soft nose and solid bullets? What weight should I be using, I was thinking the standard 400/410 woodlieghs or are the woodleigh 450's the go? I have loaded my rifle upto 2700 fps with a 410 grain bullet, so is it wise to back down a bit and use a woodleigh or stay with the 2650-2700 fps and maybe use the barnes TSX or other monometal bullet for more energy?

My brother may also want to join in, and he dosnt have a heavy rifle, so I am wondering which would be best out of my .340 weatherby magnum or my ruger No 1 .577 NE 3" set up to fire 650 grain bullets? My weatherby is able to shoot 300 grain bullets at 2600 fps and has the advantage of three in the mag plus one in the spout. My .577 is not yet finished and is only a single shot, but its obviously a far more powerful round even though its only ever gonna shoot 650's at about 1900-2000fps, but its still only a single shopt if somthing goes wrong.....? I dont really want to be shareing a rifle during the hunt and these are my only other options gun wise.

Thanks in advance for the help

Steve
