"Fat Lady"

Put in a arvo hunt as the weather is still good. Didn't really need meat so took the "Fat lady". Headed in to put a camera out on a scrape/ preach Bit of sign and slowed down on a face that I put a good stag up on a week or so back. Not there today so headed on towards the scrape.
About 50m from the scrape I spotted a sambar feeding at 22m. Dropped to my knees and he kept feeding. He was facing me and unable to shoot as a tree in the way.
Had to lean out a bit to get the sights on him, his sixth sense had him taste the air and his mane flared All happened pretty quick as he turned to his left I let one go. the result was spectacular, he did a complete headfirst somersault and down. Kicked forward a meter or two and all over. Stoked. First with the .577.
Pics and butchered for the carry out
Heres some pics, cheers Mick

Re: "Fat Lady"

The "Fat Lady" cries for sweet tropical airs and water buffalo flesh! Sambar is also such a sweet alternative. I wonder if a .577 LNE has been used on sambar before?

Mick,
Great to know that "the Fat Lady" is still in the fields.

I am too unmotivated to dig thru old threads…..what are you using for your latest loads in this very feminine pub brawler?

Re: "Fat Lady"

Bell / Berram cases, 9 1/2 rem M primers, 2206H @78 gr , 2x felt wads , 650 RNSP for 1750 fps

75gr 2206h with 650 solids.

The woodies rated for 1700 kill very well.

Only change from Tony's loads is 2206H instead of 2206 1 gr less.

Re: "Fat Lady"

Silly question Mick - where did you get the felt from?
Been looking around for some for the 410 shotgun cases.

Is it solid felt or the "aerated" stuff?

Which is better and why?

Re: "Fat Lady"

Horse land or saddle making places.
solid felt, punched to diameter required and applied with around 20lbs of pressure over powder charge.
