World Record Water Buffalo

What's the world record water buffalo for Australia?

Or elsewhere in the world?

Plus any photos or links.

A big one.

I also remember another thread but failed to find it. I think it had the Graham Williams buffalo displayed on it.

For what its worth SCI lists the record at 157 4/8". We got one last year that was 131 2/8" that is listed at number 5.

Wow, incredible.

Would be interesting to see the world record.

How do these buff manouvre through the forests?

They run with their head held sideways.

Its an impressive sight to see a big sweeper bull running flat-out through the paperbarks.

Re: World Record Water Buffalo

I have two photographs of the Australian world record buffalo which were taken at the bark Hut on the Arnhem Highway .I can't post them as I don't have an account on a host website and don't really want to go that route.
The buff was taken by Bill Fordham in the early 80's in Arnhem Land.
He used a Winchester 44-40 to shoot the animal .
He had the horns mounted on another buffalo shoulder mount and the mount hung in the dining room at his King Valley homestead for many years.
I believe they were sold a few years ago , but have not seen or heard of them since Bill sold the property and moved to Qld.

What's an Australian world record?

I have a photo of Bill and I standing under that buff head when it was on the wall at Urapunga homestead. Bill was Ray Friar's head stockman at the time. It was a big head, measured by Nick Harvey when he visited Urapunga a couple of years before, but there are certainly bigger heads around. The set taken by Colin L_ from WA a few years ago is much bigger, and some of the heads Karl G_'s clients have been getting in recent weeks are right up there too.

This is marvellous, really good to see truly big heads being taken recently as so much of the genetic diversity would have been lost during the BTEC shoot-out.

Re: World Record Water Buffalo

Australian and World record I meant to say. It was the world record at the time and probably has been knocked off the list by now. This head was taken in the early 80's so is a not a recent trophy.
Of course these big heads are from cows ,all the years I have been hunting buff I've never seen a bull with such long skinny hooks. That's my experience anyway.
I've sent the pics by e-mail to John who will hopefully post them when he has some spare time.
Five posts north of this one is a pic with a buff with down turned horns , I shot one similar years ago on the Wildman river , not as long and wide , it was a cow , she could not turn her head from side to side very far as the horns hit her shoulders and prevented full movement .
Largest bull I've shot scored 99 5/8ths points SCI and the next one down at exactly 98SCI.
I've never cracked the magic 100 . Haven't done much hunting since I've lived in Katherine but now I have good reliable contacts in the wider Gove area and more time on my hands hopefully my hunting time will pick up, and I get that 100+ bull.
Kev.

The two photos were taken by myself in 1982 and are copyright to me .
.
I give my permission to post them in the appropriate thread.
.
They were scanned from prints taken at the time which explains the ordinary quality.
.
But I think they are clear enough to post . As far as I know they are the only photographic record of the horns.
.
I am standing to the left in the pic with two people , the other person is Bill Fordham the shooter and owner of the horns at that time.
.
I am 6' ft 2" in hieght so you can see how large the horns are.

Thanks Kev for providing those photos. Great to see them and record them online.

I reckon we have had Colin L's head posted here too in the past but I can't find it. Anyone have the reference?
