Re: most popular caliber

I think it depends on the area. Most shooters up here would have .308s. Down in the cropping country it's .243.

Re: most popular caliber

.22. .223's have a lot of fans, as does 243 and 308 as mentioned. 30/30 is pretty popular too. In the Europeans 6.5x55 is common. Less common though still numerous is the 22/250 and 30/06.

Fav brands are winchester, sako, ruger, Brno, remington.

Lot of ex mil fans out there too. Years ago the 303/25 was all the rage, and while plenty of rifles still exist, you cant buy factory ammo for it.

Check out usedguns.com.au (I think) as it will give a good idea and picture of what is generally available.

In NZ the range of brands would be similar as is the range calibres already mentioned,to which I would add Tika in brands & 25-06, 7mm Mauser, 7mm-08 & 270 Winchester in calibres. A lot of guys still shoot the 303 as a bush rifle though I think its more a nostalgia thing. Synthetic stocks & stainless actions & barrels have taken over the Gun Racks the last decade or so.

Re: most popular caliber

.22lr (Everyone has one). The .223 is far and away the leader in sales of centrefire rifles and of ammo. It (the .223) has almost totally removed the .222 from the scene and the .222 only hangs on with older rifles still being used. .243 seems to be very popular as someone stated earlier in cropping country where legal culling of roos and extermination of feral pigs is required. From there it would have to be the .308.

Lots of other calibres exist but are in the minority.
