Rebarrel original Farquharson, Gibbs type

Gibbs type original Farquharson .450 black powder express, if one were to rebarrel for nitro cartridge, would that be safe and possible? For keeping best value, would it be better to keep it in original caliber? Barrel bore is pitted a bit, so I thought about rebareling in nitro cartridge of suitable size for action. What would you suggest, you Farquharson fans?
