Ohh, I feel a sickness coming on ...

I have a Ruger No. 1 in .45-70 that was a limited run, with Circassian walnut stock and 26-inch barrel. The throat in it is so tight I can't even chamber standard loads with the Hornady 350-grain bullet crimped at the cannelure. But black powder loads with the big old Lyman 457125 "Gummint" 525-grain round nose drop in like rocks in a well.
So I'm kinda thinkin' maybe I ought send this thing on down the road, although with the longer tube I would be tempted to chamber to .450 BPE/NE. But then the twist is only 1:20 in the Ruger .45-70 barrel.
I'm "codgertating" on all these matters when, whilst shuffling through the clutter on the loading bench, I find a partial box of virgin Bertram .461 Gibbs No. 2 brass -- gorgeous, sexy stuff! Man, a rechamber is tempting, but with the classic Gibbs No. 2 load of 570-grain bullet and 90 grains FFg, I am concerned about that 1:20 twist stabilizing things.
Prolly need to just sell the rifle and let it torture some other poor soul ...
