this is the time to buy german combination guns
      #377366 - 17/06/23 11:10 PM

I sold some good guns for the family of a sickened older hunter under best circumstances and the price for all was under what I thougth before. this 1991 merkel drilling 12 ga + 7x65r with a 60 cm long insert in 222 rem see very little use over 31 years, sold like you see it for only 1810 euro.

why? very few want this combination guns anymore. if you want to buy them, used - they will be cheap now in germany.

Certainly a bargain for such a nice piece - hope it goes to a new owner that appreciates it properly & gets to use it as well.

Marvelous!

Friend and I wonder when such beautiful and useful tools of art will be considered "old junk".

sadly the time is now! having a complete lead shot ban on the horizon now older double guns are close to be wortless. the merkel sidelock sold only for 700 euro.

you can buy nice old double guns now for 1 euro sometimes because nobody want them anymore.

I thought the merkel double rifle in 9,3x74R would bring at least 4000 euro, it sold for 3300.
its like new, only be used one time in namibia.

Too bad those were not sold in the US. I believe there is a better market here.
Isn't bismuth shot sold there?

yes, you get it when available but no problem with the drilling and the double gun. they will pass a new steel shot proof with flying colours.

older guns not strong enough for steel shot don't find friends anymore.

I wish I could partake currently.

I think I'll buy several big lots of shot to last me a long time. Or see if I can get my shotmaker to make round not tear shaped lead shot.

I have thought for a long time now, that all this steel shot and “non toxic” bullet requirement is just another form of “Gun Control”. Another way to get people to get rid of their guns.

It is a form of gun control and restricting ammunition.

But with increasing monopolization of gun makers, the Beretta Group, and the L&O Group. Large companyngroups no doubt pushing legalese agendas to improve their sales. It's so common today for large businesses to corruptly influence govts, restrictions, immigration, grants, for their benefit. Not referring to anything specific with the two groups mentioned above.

Here we've long had a waterfowl lead shot ban. I'll just use bismuth. And lead shot for everything else.

But I know the nuts will just ban lead one day anyway, to be green and restrictive. Irrespective of zero evidence or justification.

There is a lot of rubbish being peddled by many about non-toxic and old guns. I can’t help feeling plenty in the trade are having a lot of fun. Gentleman comes in with his old Dickson Round action. Its now useless sir. Here is a new steel proofed Beretta for £2,500. Oh don’t worry about your family we will take care of it.

A few months later said Dickson turns up in the US being offered fir sale for several thousand Dollars.

Certainly here in the UK there are now steel shot loads designed for and suitable for old guns that are not steel shot proofed. Gamebore Regal Steel, Eley Grand Prix steel etc. and they are proper 2 1/2” cartridges. The biodegradable wad protects the barrels from the shot - shot doesn’t come into contact with the barrels. It is recommended that you don’t use more than 1/2 choke, but with steel you don’t need much choke to get a tight pattern. And I have found in my old guns that I can kill and miss birds just as well as I used to.

Guns should be in good condition, but to be honest they should be in such condition before you shoot them.

There are fewer option in 16 and 28, but these are coming.

As for rifles, there are now plenty of good non toxic monolithic bullets that work very well. You need drop down a bullet weight or two so they stabilise, but now having shot many deer with different monolithics they kill well, have complete penetration and leave a nice clean carcass with much less meat damage. Put them in the guts the animal will run off and may or may not be recovered. Same is true for any lead bullet. Possibly the very old obsolete black powder fueled slow twist rifles may struggle to find a non toxic option.

But there are companies developing new materials that have softness and density of lead, but non of the toxicity. These are at the stage of trials and load development but results look promising.
