      #372190 - 11/12/22 02:36 AM

Normally i am into german falling blocks of the pre 1945 time, but these one found my interest...... but i can find nothing about "S.A. Gun works London & Cape town" ?

I would be happy about every info on the signed adress and the gun itself.

After the Gibb's Farquharson patent expired, Francotte and its subcontractors made a number of "Farquharson" style actions. Most of those actions are marked PD or ID on the face (hidden by forearm).
I believe most of these actions were imported to England where the gun manufacturing trade bfinished the guns and sold them to retailers like Jeffrey, Holland and others (including some somewhat obscure retailers). Those guns are only marked with the retailer's name. My guess is that S A is a retailer hat had their name added to teh gun.

Cool Farquharson action rifle

Sold out to the retailer before finishing and branded with the company banner before sailing down to the storefront

I'm not an expert on the variations of the Farquharson action, but someone here can properly describe that particular edition of the action type

I'll take it please before the comments weigh in to enhance the value...

Something on the retailer

A Link to the Google books search machine showing a journal page with an ad from the company stating

"We guarantee all Guns bearing our new name S.A. Gun Works, late Hillsdon and Hillsdon, to be made in the same Factory in Birmingham as before"

I'm sure you can find more by doing some internet searches

I also have an SA retailed Farquharson 450/400.
It’s at Steve Bertram’s shop becoming a 450 since the bore was sewer pipe quality.
I’m not sure if the logo is still on the action - Steve May be able to show it.
Also, I’m looking for a good piece of English Walnut for the stock.

Nice rifle. I shot Curly's .450/400 in 2018. Yeah - nice rifles.

Lovely piece there Chapmen!
No wonder you grabbed it, true she's seen dome hard yards but hopefully the barrel will be still good for you to have a play.
Let us know how she goes when you get around to the range report.
cheers
