Help with Martini (cadet)
      #259959 - 04/02/15 04:08 PM

I need some help. Another martini followed me home from vegas. I am told it was sold by sportco. It is a nice .222 rimmed. The best part is the dealers tag said that but I never read his tag. When I asked him about it, he thought it was a .22LR. I negotiated a deal assuming that. When I walked away and was asked about my treasure I realize it said .222R, not .220 as I thought! Happy, happy, happy!

My problem is, does anyone recognize the scope mount screw holes? There are no sights nor evidence of sights on the gun. I can't stand not being able to take it out and shoot it, Please Help!!!!

If worse comes to worst I have a good big welder to fill the holes.

Thanks in advance.

Jerry

I think most of those Sportco's had a Field side mount fitted to them .

Welcome to the forum!

I will copy your thread and post it on another forum and see if we can rustle you up a set that suits. Do you know the distances apart?

"Those holes , particularly the ones close together in the middle, are from a 'Field instruments' M mount. Have one on my Martini Hornet. Will post a photo later when I get a chance.

The other holes, no idea, but mine has the same pattern.

Chrispy"

So you need to find a Field Instruments M Mount. (like Sarg has said).

Though apparently they can also be easily made from a piece of angle iron.

Here's another example, an Ausinel. It is essentially a flat piece of steel, screwed to the side of the action, to which brackets holding the rings are attached:

The rear bracket gets in the way a bit, to be perfectly honest. I've been meaning to get it modified to put the rear bracket further forward, just forward of the breechface.

Here's a rather more recent photo, showing the overall layout, after a bit of other work:

They had a lot of simple designs, didn't they?

Jerry: I've tracked you down a mount for it. If you want it it's yours for free. (Is kindly being offered by another fellow)

Cheers,
Ash.

The lower holes are 1 3/8" apart, the upper are 2 3/8" apart. They are about 3/8" c to c vertical. The upper rear hole is 3/8" past the lower rear hole.

Glad I posted here. I joined the forum a long time ago, but never partcipated until now. Thanks for the help. I posted this sim thread on 2 other sites and did not get as good info.

Thanks to all

BTW

I have several other martini's. One large caliber that was identical to a military model (before the Boer chopped the forend) but no military markings. Bought it from someone who imported it from S. Africa. I have made a new stock and made it similar to a sporter from that era. It is fun to shoot, but it isn't perfect… my 1st stock attempt.

Have another cadet that needed some love. Made it into a MSSR (my poke at AR's) a modern single shot rifle. Bored it out into .357. Textured stock and red dot sight. It is one of the most fun guns I own. (and my wife say's I own a lot!)

I have a 3rd that is a 12/15? with a .22lr bull barrel, Paker Hale sights target forend etc. Right now it is staying that way… not sure if I want to modify it into a 7-30 walters or a 25-35.

I just love these little SS. Can't get enough of them.

Thanks to all.

Jerry

We try our best here

I sent a PM to the fellow with the mount, he should post it to me and i should be able to get it to you shortly after. Postage takes about 2-3 weeks to get to the US. I'll keep you updated when news comes.

Good to see you participating, we need more members and posts

You could always fill those holes and:
The barrel and action are rust browned.

Love the small martini actions they are ideal for plinking .I have an original 310 unaltered but wish somebody would make a no gun smithing mount for them as I just can't bring myself to get it tapped and drilled but my eyes wish I had. The above rifles are spectacular with cheek piece stocks altered levers and great browning/ blueing.Cheers Steve

Damn, I forgot to chase this up earlier. The advert has since expired. Anyone know whether it sold, or merely the advert time period ran out? I need a mount for my Martini Cadet in .222 Rimmed.
