BT Exigence - Excellence!

The rifle in this picture is that one example of a bespoke rifle from the Verney-Carron L'Atelier workshop.

Don't know the design origins but made in house.

Nice looking, except the rear sight is WAY to close to the action for any but a 20 year old's eyes - even then - too close, in my humble opinion, of course.
I personally would not be able to shoot that rifle accurately - enough - for me. If the rib was extended 1" longer than the current rib, and the rear sight placed at the current rib's front tang point, perfection.

I know this firm is a sponsor, so we should be kind to them.

However, I cannot warm up to either of these rifles.

I dislike the lines of the first rifle and also its engraving pattern.

The second rifle has nicer lines, but I am at a loss to understand or appreciate its embellishment. Chickenpox?

I am not a single shot collector and have only a few. If I were to covet a single shot rifle on the Hagn action I would look to Hartmann & Weiss, Dorleac, and Ralf Martini.

JMHO, YMMV, etc.

Although I am not in love with the snowflakes I would gladly use either rifle to put large leaky holes in a few critters!

Looks like Japanese stylised flowers to me.

Or perhaps random snowflakes falling in a night sky.

The engravings and decorations on these rifles are per the customers order. Some seem to have trouble working it out, the customers asks for it, they get it. Instead of buying something a hundred years old that someone a hundred years ago specified.

Lets face it a Farquharson rifle is a butt ugly design. Not balanced in looks one little bit. Ungainly. But because it has been around so long we think it is somehow "attractive".

I've got a large number of photos of these artistically decorated rifles to post. Sure they are very different to what one normally expects being works of art.

Is it worth posting them?

I really like the rifle inlaid with flowers. Its nice to see that some of the customers think outside the box with this stuff. These things become works of art and should be appreciated as such.I've seen probably more than most of these artistically engraved firearms, and while not everybody's cup of tea, they are all very individual and to the customers taste. As they're paying for it I dont think its down to others to criticise it.

A legitimate criticism Daryl made, was the rear open sight being too far back. If I ordered one of these rifles, I would definitely ask for it to be further forward.

On some of the rifles the pistol grip may appear to be too long and 'banana' curved. However as the rifles are no doubt personally fitted when the customer attends the premises and orders their rifle, this may fit them and be what they want.

I think the silver inlay decorations look like silver cherry blossoms.

I will confirm if I am able.

John Hahn
Jean, Are the decorative engravings on this rifle, cherry blossoms? Thanks.

Jean Verney-Carron .
I asked Jérôme (because that rifle was not started for a customer but to show what L'Atelier Verney-Carron can do) and he told me that he had no specific flowers in mind when he chose that shape.
He got the inspiration from some stuff he had seen.
The main goal in that rifle decorative engravings was to be totally asymmetric

I think they were based on Sakura - Cherry Blossom - crests from Mediaeval Japan.

Nice ,i would like just a plain blued version ,Verney Carron seems to be one of the better companys IMO, providing quality guns at sensible prices, without the snob attitude, and will make them how you want them made.I think Farquarsons grow on you ,i thought they were ugly when i first saw them ,i think the Sorokas are nice, but at U.S 18500.00 too much for my budget.
