Deep relief engraved Soroka 07

A couple of pics that some may enjoy of a deep relief scroll pattern. The rifle is in 375H&H Mag and will finish up rather well with its Turkish walnut stock, leather pad, rust blue and colour case, H&H style banded front sight.

Hard to get that kind of effect of a bolt rifle.

I prefer the look of deep scroll engraving but it is so expensive. That looks fantastic and the slab sided single shots lend themselves to engraving.

Was it done in NZ ?

No, it was done in the US. I too much prefer the deep relief engraving, especially now, after seeing this cut. I think there will be a few Sorokas engraved in a similar style. We have another pair to do in an almost identical pattern for a husband and wife, both 300 Win mags.

All the barrelled actions are now finished in the US, stocking, checkering, engraving, colour casing, rust bluing simply because NZ doesnt have enough skilled craftsmen to get the job done in a commercially viable way. I only know of 2 engravers in the whole country, (whereas in the US I know of 20+) and no one that can colour case. Additionally a rifle stock built in the North Island of NZ will shrink and pull away from the metal work significantly when delivered to the dry climes of the "Rockies" States or anywhere else that has very low ambient humidity. Far better to have a stock swell than it is to have it shrink.
For obvious reasons....
