Tarting Up A Ruger No1
      #51653 - 06/03/06 11:48 PM

I've never liked the look of the quarter rib on No1 Rugers.
Does anyone produce a better looking rib suitable for a tropical No1?
TIA

You can always make up scope blocks to fit the screw holes and fore-go the rib.
: I am sure the Express sights have bases that fit the round barrel just fine.

I have been looking for at quarter rib myself. In RIfle shooter febr. 1999 there is an article about a customized no.1, which has a new quarter rib made by Dave Talley, but I guess the rib is custom made. The gunsmith is Mike Ruggiero of Broad Creek Rifle Works Ltd. , Laurel, Delaware.

You can get the Dakota arms blanks from Brownells. The ones they sell are already cut for aftermarket barrel contours but if you do so comparison you might be able to get one then just need to do some hand fitting. They are decent looking ribs, though kind of basic.

P.S.- 338x74R do you have a rifle so chambered? If so what and what kind of ballistics do you get from the gun. I've long been interested in this wildcat but haven't yet gotten around to making myself one.

Here is Brownells pic of the quarter rib blank.

There is a gentleman on another board (Fredj338) who has one on a Ruger No. 1 and has posted about it a bit.

It looks like he is registered here as well, although he has not posted in a while. He said this on this board:

One of the great things about a single shot like the Ruger #1 is cartridge length is no problem. Infact, a longer cart. helps me speed my reload when neccessary.
I have a #1 in .338x74K & love the round. With a long bullet like the 225grNAB, LOA is right at 4.00". You can easily get 2800fps w/ this bullet & the round is just very cool to load for & shoot. I recommend it or a straight 9.3x74R. If you are going custom, might as well go custom.

thank you ! I will take a good close look at this rib and try to compare the barrel profiles of Shilen and Douglas with my 375 H&H barrel to find out which one will fit best.
I have not been able to make a 338x74R yet. Haven't found reamer and dies. You can ask Fredj338, he has got one.
