New US made single shot -- NICE -- spotted at NRA 2012
      #207177 - 16/04/12 02:53 PM

After attending a number of busines and work-related functions, I had some time to walk the floor at NRA 2012. Last year I remember being surprised at the extent to which the market for both 1911 and polymer-framed Glock-spinoff handguns had become oversaturated. Well, this year I stand corrected -- there were even more "new" 1911s and Glock copies on display this year. Now it is really oversaturated.
I think the 1911 is a great, unaparalleled, classic, and timeless design. And the Glock is also OK. But I don't need to travel long distances to see either of these.

Now it gets interesting. Stuck between all those 1911s and plastic guns (and yes a couple plastic 1911s as well) a little startup company caught my eye. They get the "I really hope these guys make it" award. Sorry in advance for cell phone pictures; I should have brought my Nikon!

The name of this promising company is Luxus. Here is a closeup of case hardening -- they are doing it right and coating it with a 2-stage clear coat and hardener:

Check out the wood -- he said he uses turkish walnut for all guns:

Another view:

Base models have a price point around $1500 and deluxe models will hit around $3k. It is 100% US manufactured in Ohio. They plan to have around 15 "standard" calibers but the guy said they would do whatever people wanted, and that the action would have no problem accomodating Nitro Express sized cartridges. The fit and finish on all of the guns was excellent. There was exquisite case hardening on the scope mount and trigger guard. The guy told me they had designed their own lockup system from the ground up. The point of balance was good, about 4 inches ahead of the trigger. A properly fitted scope probably won't change it much.

These 5 guns were seriously the highlight of the trip and I hope you enjoy them.

That's a spin off of Luxus walnut company. The commisioned Searcy to build the rifle I now have. And the stocked my 450/400 Ruger #1. They furnished the wood. The wood shown here is nice but not top shelf.

Looks interesting but that has to be a pretty thin slice of wood on the side of the action. Does it appear as fragile as it looks in the picture?

I would like to see one with the lever down.

Wonder what is to the rear right-hand side of the action?

Very interesting! Just checked their website out and they have a lot of pics. The wood that they use is particularly beautiful. And interchangeable calibers from 22 Hornet to 375 Magnum - nice!

I had not seen the photos of the action open before and from the profile wrongly assumed they were of the falling block type ..................... Doh!
