Ruger 30-06 to 30 Super Flanged
      #49203 - 05/02/06 08:28 AM

**I posted this on the Reloading/Gunsmithing forum, and thought I'd try here, too.**

I'd like to rechamber my Ruger No.1B in 30-06 to 30 Super Flanged. Has anyone had experience with this and could you recommend someone to do it? Thanks.

I once had a set of Tikka 512 barrels for my 412 valmet that had been re-chambered for 30 Super FL, and they were excellent...no problems found in the re-chambering. I sold the barrels in a moment of looming poverty, much to my dismay...only because I still have a set of '06 and of 9,3X74R.

What you need to watch for is the extractor configuration...will it work for a rimmed case? The extractors on the Valmet/Tikka guns are so simple that they work perectly.

It is a great re-chambering in my opinion.

Your desired conversion would work fine in a Ruger. You might consider a standard 300 H&H. It will be easier to find/buy a reamer, dies /brass will be much cheaper, the Ruger will work perfectly with the H&H. The flanged would be perfect for a vintage single shot or DR, but unnecessary in a Ruger.

It can be done but the extractor has to be modified maybe a cheaper way is get a Ruger in .405Win and change the barrel? The flange/Rim should be similar

Only reason I can think of to alter to .30 Flanged Mag is if you have a double rifle in that calibre and want to set your Ruger up with a 'scope for longer ranges with the same ammo. I have a double rifle drilling in 9.3x74R (over 20ga) which is good for under 3" 8 shot groups at 100 with open sights, but to scope it would be to spoil it, so I am watching out with interest for the No. 1 in 9.3x74R that is supposed to be coming out soon.
