My cooking area
      #269806 - 31/08/15 09:27 AM

I was cooking a potjie last night and thought that I would post some photos of my cooking area and hopefully we might get some others to post some photos of theirs as well.

I have a couple of old disk plough blades to barbecue on as well as using the pot for cooking. I have run water to the area and have sink to install and a shower. The area is 80 m from the house and next to a shipping container that I am converting to a 'man cave'. We spend some lovely evenings out here.

It's starting to come together nicely.

A tidy camp.

I was going to take potjie and a camp oven up for the hunt. Rejected the potjie as I had too much stuff already. Didn't use the camp oven either. The plan was to get some buffalo meat early and cook up a buffalo sri lankan curry or similar. As it was we only got the first bull well into the week and not a young enough animal to bother with meat for it. Actually never even made a camp fire which in hindsight was a pity.

Like your second photo, a campfire is nature's bush TV and adds to the atmosphere and ejoyment of a camp.

The whole idea you outline has merit to copy! I have a couple of containers to "covert" and was toying with the idea of not locating near the sheds for storage but putting, one, maybe too near the creek. The whole "away from it" mancave idea, campfire etc etc really is proving attractive now.

I have the house to myself most weekdays and weeknights, so not really needed. My whole house is a "mancave". But I think it is a great idea. My container "mancave" can have creek and "water" views. Water when the creek actually flows, and somedays can be an island in a flood.

Damn that is a neat and tidy fire place as well !!!

The old disk plough blades is cool too. But I think I am still using all of mine.

the good looking high quality agricultural land gives it away every time. We can run 2-3 goannas per 20 hectares here!

Oh, on that night we had a red that the young bloke had won in a trivial pursuit competition on the weekend! Couldn't complain for the price.

Cheers

Is this at home or at camp?

Either way it looks like a place I'd enjoy a cold one or two...

I can weld, but not like this. These smokers are made in Uvalde, about 80 miles southwest of San Antonio.

When our friends from Zimbabwe stayed with us, they marveled at what they named the "Texas offset cooker."

Funny how things are done differently throughout the world.

I know this is an older thread but I like the idea of sharing cooking area photos. I built this cooking shack this summer to house my grill and smoker. Built a fire pit out front with benches

I connected it with a walkway to the deck off my house.

We have a delightful brook running alongside of the house with lots of ferns etc.Its a very cool place on a hot day and we get a fire going on the cooler days. Its a mess atm as we had more a river than a brook recently.

Same spot,diff angle.

Ha ha stop drinking !

It is just part of the former decor.

Anyway I grilled these wings on a wire frame over coals in the flooded zone foreground, the black bits are Oregano leaves used in the marinade.

800 mm of rain in less than four months got the brook foaming, the main creek over the other side has been going hard for months too,it is clear water though.
