12ga Roll crimper design for Fosbery-type projectiles
      #315077 - 08/04/18 03:03 PM

If its of any interest here, I have recently made a 12ga roll crimper that is a hybrid of the original Lyman 12ga roll crimper with an appropriate recess to accommodate the nose of the Paradox (Fosbery) projectile and possibly similarly shaped slugs in 12ga, it incorporates the 'crimp teeth' from the original Lyman design with the recess for the nose of the Paradox slug, works beautifully on both plastic and paper cases, will post pics here soon enough!

Looking forward to it. I need one of those.

From where do you hail?

Daryl,

I'll be putting up pictures here of the crimper along with before and after comparisons on paper and plastic 12ga hulls, I haven't posted pics in a while and hope it's as easy as it used to be!

That's pretty neat. I think the Lyman roll crimper only has one pressure pin. There is one made in Alberta that has 2 pins.
Thanks for the pictures.

So the roll crimper has 'pressure pins'?
I thought they were just curved to aid rolling over the tops of the cases?

Me too, but then again, I think the only ones I've ever looked closely at were antiques.

Did you make this or did you modify one of the new ones that they sell for shot shells.

The ones I have seen, have the pin/pins, angled & merely solder in.

Made it from a D2 steel round bar, sat down with the CAD guy and put everything together, dimensionally and then all machining was done on a Haas VMC. Later I merely 'seasoned' it by running a few dozen fired plastic hulls trimmed to 2.5" to leave the walls straight and used a little Flitz mixed with oil smeared over the hull, perfect polishing tool for the insides and to get the crimp knuckles inside all shiny and smooth! Now paper or plastic, no problems!!

Yes - photobucket is not allowing some of the pictures now, whereas yesterday, I saw them all. I am sure, by tomorrow, none will be visible.
