POLEVA slugs
      #273583 - 19/11/15 02:26 PM

I just watched a youtube video about these slugs supposedly from the Soviet Union during the cold war. Does anyone have more information on them and is there a mold available to cast them?

I have a 30-06 and a 45-70 side by side rifle by Baikal. I also modified a 12 gauge side by side into a slug gun. My problem has always been champagne and caviar tastes on a generic diet coke and fritos budget.

think you mean this vid?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul690I9Ba2Y

new also to me but I would think its collectors stuff today. it dont survive the last decades and by the way it was build I see no advantage about other slug designs. this are just common elements you find on a lot of other slug.
maybe the ammo just shot very good in this special gun but its common that slugs shooting fine in one gun and fail in the other.
and what they are doing its not the proper way to test a cartridge, imho!

As with any handgun or rifle, and indeed shotguns too, one must find the load that shoots best in them. That usually means buying different loads or loading changes to find what works in your gun.

Foster type slugs shoot very well in most smoothbores, but some will like Fed 1oz. better than the 1 1/4 ounce while others might prefer Rem, Winch., - or Brenneke's - testing is where we learn about our guns, what THEY want as well as being good practise.

You are right, Lancaster - their method of 'testing' just plain sucked.
