.270 Win, 150gr Nosler, at about 175 paces(approx 165 yards) iron sights, in my north wheat field at about 8:30 this morning. All in all not a bad way to start the day.

Please tell us that you stalked it thru the stubble for a thousand yards on your belly. Don't tell us that you shot it off the back porch while having your morning coffee..

That'll look real good filling up the freezer! ( I'd hate to say 'nice rack' to a guy though!)

Thanks guys,

There is a photo, I'm not sure why you can't see it GroovyMike....

No I didn't shoot it off my back porch, I didn't belly crawl through a thousand yards of stubble either though. I was sitting in the corner of were my fields come together with my pasture, he came out of some brush in the upper end of our wheat field and was working his way down to the tree line in the pasture on the other end of the field.

Nice little buck, Jeff - he'll be good eating. Good shooting too. I see altogether too many young people shooting scopes - they never do learn to shoot irons & are stumped if having scope problems.

I still like decent iron sights, although am finding scopes on most of my rifles these days. It would be a travesty of good taste to put a scope on the M94 .375 Big Bore. It will remain with it's irons until I can't see them at all.

My Uncle was a farmer in Michigan and he had a shooting platform in the top of an old 40-50 foot silo. Range markers out every 50 yards down to the 20 acres of woods he owned. Every morning before sunrise he'd be up there with his `06 and a thermos of coffee looking for deer. No it wasn't hunting.. It was shooting.

Congratulations, Colin! Iron sights at 165 yards - fantastic!

Good hunting!
