Left barrel bullet moving?
      #84315 - 20/08/07 11:04 PM

I have a question on muzzleloader Double Rifles:
Do the bullet on left (second) barrel move when you discharge right barrel?.
I can see how a tight patched round ball or a REAL cannot move but how about minie bullet?
Thanks
Martin

I have made several doubles and I have not had a problem with it.
Now, if you fire only one barrel and reload, it's wise to ram both ball to be sure, but up to 8 bores, shooting balls, I have not had any problems. I am now working on a double 62 cal bullet gun, and I don't know if it's going to be the same, but I think it will. 750 grain bullets with 140 grain charges. I am building it as a "spec-gun" so I only get time to work on it every now and then. I don't know when I will finish it, but when i do, I will post the results.

szihn,
Thanks i was concern because I have not experience with muzzleload double rifles.
I have a bullet move on my double 577 snider once, but was because I was not using any crimp.
I would like to know about your proyect.
Im in a trade for a Kodiak .58 and I also have plans of making a doble .500 in a "in-line" configuration.
Thanks
Martin

I would not shoot minnie bullets in a double rifle unless they engraved at loading, hard. Loose fit minnies, as they were designed to be used will slide forward upon the discharge of the first barrel. This means a .575 minnie in a .580 bore. Dangerous! Even REAL bullets can move 1/4" to 1" forward in a .58 double rifle if they are a bit small in size or only engrave one band. My buddie had this happen in his. Lucky for him, he checked one and quit using them. He was lucky he didn't ring or split his left barrel.
: Patched round balls will give better game killing results - stick with them as they are safe to use in double rifles "if properly patched".
