Its comming.....

I sent away to Greenriver Rifle Works for a mould for my tower musket (1859). I took a cast of the bore(the wrong way I've been told) and sent that away to have a mould made. The cast measured out to be .577 cal, god knows what weight projectile it will throw.

Being a gumby when it comes to BP any tips from you guys about getting this rifle shooting?

what's the twist rate or the rifling? If it's 1 in 78"(which is standard) it should do OK with a hollow based conical in the 400 grain range. Keep the bullets as close to pure lead as you can. Use a well lubed felt wad between the bullet and powder to help keep a good seal at the bullet base. Start with 70gr Fg or FFg black and work up from there until you find that perfect load.

You can make your own lube at home, or buy the T/C bore butter kind of stuff in a tube.

You might also find that a .570" cloth patched round ball might shoot well to.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know to put a wad between the powder and bullet. I have some felt but its very thick. How thick should it be?

Thanks Alan, I'm trying to track down a new stock for the beast at the moment.
