As I was sitting around waiting for my knee to heal, I noticed that I have a beautiful stock from a Mauser Magnum M98 (built for a 416 Rigby) just gathering dust.

Since I generally need little excuse for a new project, I was wondering what it woould take to build a new Mauser around the stock. Just read an article about this and it seems doable.

I would like, like mind you, to end up with a 505 Gibbs or 500 jeffrey.

Midway has Dakota receivers, and barrels seem pretty easy to get from the maker. I would send it out for reaming and barrel fitting.

Where is the best place to get a good, solid receiver?

I know that there a few folks on here who have built their own. Am I biting off more than I can chew here?
