unknown mauser sporting rifle

hi guys and gals
ive recently come into possession of a lovely Mauser rifle
im trying to find out any information i can about it ie year of manufacture,gunsmith etc
its in 7mm mauser
and has no calibre markings or proof-marks
apart from the name "M.Amrusch,gmunden,austria"on the floorplate
quite extensive and deep engraving
stock is extremely slim in the two piece fore-end which makes it a delight for hunting as overall rifle feels very light
if anyone can shed light on this old girl id be much appreciative

forgive blurryness of photos ive found if you right click on picture and open in new tab photo becomes crystal clear

Thanks for sharing.

Looks like it may have had the original Double Set-Triggers (going on the size of the Trigger Guard), replaced (with a Timney, etc)?
Apart from that, I can't be of any additional help to you.

Sorry hunta I tried unsuccessfully to open up these properly - still have that darn 'photobucket' crap on it no mater what I seem to do!
Shame though, but it certainly looks a very nice piece indeed!

There may be further cartouches proof marks under the stock etc & that may give someone here a clue as to age or possibly who made it.

hi guys
yeah previous owner replaced double triggers with a timney one
entire gun was covered in dust and grease so i had to completly strip it down part wise
not a single proofmark anywhere on the gun so bit of a mystery

The gunsmith Medardus Amrusch, Badgasse 6, Gmunden, is mentioned in the 1950s. During the allied occupation of Austria, from 1945 to 1955, Gmunden, Salzkammergut, Austria, was a center of the United States Forces in Austria (USFA). So the rifle was most likely built for an American then. This explains the lack of any official proofmarks.

He had connections to the Rod and Gun Club Salzburg.
More a merchant than riflemaker , though he denoted himself as " Feinbüchsenmacher und Gewehrfabrikant" (Fine riflemaker and rifle factory).

ahh that sheds more light on it.id assume the reason it has no proofmarks would be due to the proofhouses having suffered bombing damage so no official proofing took place.

Same for me I'm afraid: blurry. Any photo marked "photobucket" always looks like it was soaking in said bucket for a few days before posting. It sounds interesting though. Too bad about the missing triggers. Nowadays, original double triggers generally sell for more than a lot of rifles. Mine came intact, but I foolishly tried to buy a second set of triggers so I could build a matching rifle. The offers I got were priced at double and even triple what I paid for the original rifle, triggers and all.
