All,
Just wished to share pictures of my Husqvarna M46 made in 1934.
Nothing fancy, just a good working rifle with a very good bore, straight grained walnut stock without any cracks or major dings. No extra holes in the action for scope bases.
Chamber is very tight (old reamer?), neck diameter is .393", headspace is short, its a crush fit on the new Privi 8x57 cases that I used to form the rounds for. No need to set a false shoulder.
Bore measures .370".
It is a very well balanced rifle.
The only thing I will be changing is the notch in the rear sight. 49 year old eyes just do not work as well as they used to with a fine sight notch.

I love my own rifle too! if you get Norma factory ammo in your hands you will find that they have minimum dimensions. I have to turn down the base of 8x57 brass down to 11,70mm when +/- 11,90 mm is common. the CIP maximum base diameter for the 9,3x57 is 11,94mm but Norma know this problems and make the 9,3x57 with a 11,70mm base.
same problem with my old M 88 rifle in 9x57. RWS was knowing this and made the 9x57 with a 11,70mm base up to the 1970s.

I have one from 1931, not much used. They are very common in Sweden. Pity that many have been drilled for mounts, hard to find those are undrilled like yours. Good working rifles. /Staffan

Is it a big work to enlarge the bolts head to CIP dimension ?

not a big work but expensive
if you rent the reamer from Triebel it cost more than 100 euro very quick now and here it have to go to the proofhouse again because the chamber was "altered"

OK, the bolt head work isn´t enough but you should ream the barrel too. Now I understand the problem.

Well done. IOWA_303. The Husky's are very nice hunting rifles.
I filed out the rear sight to a wide V shape easier to see.

Note the rifle is/was also factory chambered for the 8x57 and 9.3x62 ctgs. Too, some are even barreled and chambered in .30/06.

The 8x57 and 9.3x57 have CIP maximums of 57,000psi while the old '06's current standard is 60,000psi.

As there are no CIP specs for the 9.3x57, Norma loaded it to the old obsolete ballistics of a 285 or 286gr. bullet at 2,050fps.

The rifle I had (now my Brother's 'modern' moose rifle) also had a GROOVE diameter of .370" with a minimum chamber neck diameter of .393"(many of them have .393" necks) Too- it had a small base diameter but necked up (false shouldered) 8x57's perfectly. There was no trouble in the head diameter fit and I only partial FL sized my brass - never touching the shoulder.

I have data using NA powders that all gave 1" to 1 1/4" groups at 100 meters in testing with 225gr., 232gr., 235gr., 270gr., 285gr., 286gr., 293gr. and 300gr. bullets. The odd sizes, 225, 235, 300gr were all sized down .375" bullets.

Note, even though the groove diameter is .370" - you will not be able to use bullets larger than .367" or the neck's tightness will give trouble in the form of either not fitting or dangerous pressure generation.

I loaded the 225's to 2,540fps, 232's and 235's to 2,450fps, 270's to 2,300fps, 286/7gr. to 2,200fps and the 293's and 300's at 2,175fps.

By all pressure signs, my pressures were mild using BLC2 and H4895 powders. I felt I could easily have gone higher due to barely any case expansion above the web (.0005") in one spot only on the case's sides and .001" expansion of the neck. I did not load higher as the ballistics generated were all I needed and they were accurate and easy shooting loads.

Thanks for the replies.
My first impression of the rifle is that it is of great quality for the price, $365 including shipping and my LGS transfer fee. Did I mention that I really like this rifle?
I have only fired 5 shots (200 grain bullet, 45 grains Varget) so far just to make sure everything functioned properly and to measure case expansion etc...
The Hornady die set works great as it make the brass to minimum diameter. After firing the 5 shots and setting the sizing die to not touch the case shoulder, the sized rounds slide smoothly into the chamber.
The rifle will get a complete cleaning as there is a lot of old dirt and such on the wood and should look even better cleaned and a couple of coats of linseed oil rubbed in by hand. I plan on relieving a sliver of wood from behind the rear action tang just to help remove the possibility of the stock wanting to crack in that area and maybe glass bed the recoil lug area for the same reason.
Once the above items are done I will start to work up loads using the 200 grains (13 gram) RWS bullets I picked up recently. 2200-2250 fps max velocity per information from kuduae (thank you!).
I have always wanted a 9.3 caliber rifle and after reading the old posts about these rifle and the x57 chambering I just could not pass up this rifle.

If anyone is interested Pacific Tool & Die lists a 9.3x57 chamber reamer as a standard item on their website. cost is $147 US.

Very nice. I've handled one of these before (I have a friend who has one in 9.3x62) and it would be a good rifle to carry around when hunting, and the open sights lined up quickly for me.

My Maximum developed load for the sized down .375 300gr. Hornady RN was 45gr. H4895. That gave me 2,175fps and sub 1" groups at 100 meters. This load showed mild pressures - totally round primers and no web or above web expansion from sized brass that drops into the chamber - I mean "0" expansion on a one ten-thousandth's michrometer (not calipers).

In this 57mm case, Varget is a bit slower than H4895 so it produces slightly slower speeds, but reasonably close - at probably 2,145 or 2,125fps.

Incidentely, the .350 Rigby, which has bullet diameters at the bore size of the 9.3 at .358", put a 300gr. Kynoch factory load listed at 2,150fps, IIRC from John Taylor's book, which showed a photo of a lion taking one in the face in a charge, point blank. Impressive. Man - just thinking, been a long time since I read that book from the local library.

2,200fps is not too shabby from 286gr., or 2.300fps with the 270gr. Speer (bit soft for me), either. It will easily do 2,250fps, maybe even 2,300fps with the 286gr., I'm sure.

The same chambering in a M98 action will easily duplicate today's underloaded 286gr. factory 9.3x62 ammo - 2,340fps with 286gr. and not stress the action, either.

Note, with 286 Hornady's at 2,200fps and Norma 232's, Vulcan or Oryx at 2,450fps, this is a GREAT NA game ctg. or even most shots at African plains game, I'm sure.

Sized down 225gr. Hornady Spire Points at 2,550fps, with their 1/16" thick jackets, would do for most all NA game.

They also shot under an inch at 100 meters.
