I thought about a 416 Taylor on one since they are readily available, but was told they are too short - not a standard 30-06 sized action.

The Yugo mausers are an intermediate length action. Longer than a short action but not as long as a standard, 30-06. I had one at one time that I wanted to build on but in my research for the project I found that the biggest round you could fit into one would be the 376 Steyr (without MAJOR modification which wasn't an option at the time). That round did interest me for a short time but not long enough to make the conversion a reality.

A better option might be to trade into a standard length action and go from there. Just my .02.
