Lancaster Mauser in caliber .256 Mauser

Here's a riddle for sale. A octagon barrelled Mauser http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=1483962
marked "Charles Lancester 7 Bury Street London England ---For 256 Mauser Cartridge". I suppose this refers to the 6.5X57 Mauser. Does the address reveal the date of manufacture, or was Lancaster there too long for the address to be significant?

The rifle is for sale on consignment, and the seller doesn't even know how to spell "white hunter". He has several other putative African rifles for sale, all with the same misspelling.

He says he is open to offers as long as no bids have been made.

Looks like a J.P. Sauer that was probably retailed by Lancaster. Dig those scope mounts!!

Could be a 6.5x54 Mauser 6.5x57 or a 6.5x61 Mauser looks like the typical Sauer build Rifle. It is difficult to see on the pictures it looks like a short action and this would indicate a 6.5x54 Mauser
Serial number looks like 5 digit indicating production date before 1929.

Most common .256 caliber in Mausers made for british dealers was 6,5x58 Portuguese. That would be my guess.

It looks very "german".
You can see this barrel profile on most high grade rifles.
I alway thought the the .256 was 6.5 Manlincher but can not find any referece.
