Don has sent me pitures of his latest treasure, a 404 Jeffery rifle by Christopher Funk. From Don's e-mail:

Hello Mehul
What we have here is a rifle built by Christoph Funk from Suhl in
1929 on a Mauser Oberndorf square bridge magnum length action chambered
in 404 Jeffrey. Photos attached for the viewing pleasure of the NE
members. This rifle has all matching Mauser & Funk serial numbers and is
quite rare in this caliber for a Suhler. Will split photos in 2 emails.

Great rifle, the barrel markings 10,3 x 73 do they indicate a true .423 barrel diameter? can u shoot modern 404 jeffrey ammo in this rifle?

Proofed in a final state with a tube made by Wilhelm Kelber. What's in the grip-cap: firing pins or front sights? It's a gem to be from the 1920s.

10,75x73 is the german designation for the 404,
10,3mm is maybe the land diameter of the barrel

10,3mm would have been the pre-rifling bore diameter which would have been 72.68 or 78.41 lead spheres to the pound pre-1910 but this example was proofed in the assembled/completed/final state with the stronger, preliminary load.

Beautiful rifle all round. Forgive my ignorance, but what stops the tang sight from fouling the bolt on the forward stroke?
