This little thing has no makers name, so I'm guessing it's a "Suhl" creation. Barrel is marked "Krupp Stahl"

Please tell me you hunt that thing!

Very neat rifle, and the 9x57 is one that deserves to be resurrected IMO. I do not own one, but it is a great caliber.

Maybe this will generate some discussion about the 9x57. Seems it was quite a common chambering once upon a time.

Hi 9ThreexFifty7

I've only done a blesbuck hunt with it so far (a walk and stalk in bushveld so not your classic long distance type blesbuck hunting

On that occasion I was still using original old Kynoch ammo which had occasional misfires and less occasional split shoulders. I've since relegated them to my collection and got some dies (CH) and brass (made by Ken Stewart) but the first loads had closing problems and there is something amiss. I don't know if it's the brass, the dies or the me!

It's an absolute joy to carry in the field, light, points like an arrow and enough calibre to be confident on all plains game.

Ken Stewart still regularly supplies his bullets to folk in Zambia who take buf with this calibre! I'd be hesitant (especially since I've got better medicine for that) When I get a load sorted out I'd love to try it on blue wildebeest.

Awesome looking rifle--

I too, am intrigued by the 9x57--and have been keeping an eye out for one while at gun shows etc...seems like a perfect round for certain types of African hunting..

Curious how your blue wildebeest hunt goes..

I'm ALWAYS curious when going for blue

The best description of them remains:

An animal that is born looking sick....And gets healthier with each shot fired at it

One of the attractive qualities of the 9x57 is that if a bit overbore, common US .35 cal {.358} bullets may work fine, and regardless, simple drawing dies can be obtained to size common .358's down to proper dimensions, similarly to what I do with .375's down to 9.3 caliber, tho less sizing is needed for the 9x57. At 9x57 velocities, I bet the garden run bulk Remington Core-Lokt 200 RN's would be great for most critters up to a few hundred pounds. Controlled expansion .35's can be sized down for top performance on heavier game.

A really nice rifle in a great caliber. I have a favorite double rifle in 9x57R. This caliber really does deserve consideration.

Gosh! Another sweetheart!

Please post the hunting pictures whenever you have time. You can't be allowed to show off your rifles alone and not your trophies.

Good hunting!

Sorry Mehul, but I only started to think of hunting photos when phones became cameras so I have very few from the past. I'm making up for it with my son however; he took this springbuck with a .223 at 176m after a short stalk in southern Botswana this year. A good start for a lighty?!

Stephen,

That is what Churchill described as being pulled out of a river while drowning to be told that you had won a lottery! What a magnificent picture! Of all the hunting pictures here, the ones that I love the most are those of the next generation out hunting. What a lovely smile on the young man's face!

I just love these pictures of kids out hunting. Thanks for this simply magnificent picture and may you have many great hunts with your son in the future.
