Completed Dorleac and Dorleac 404 Jeffery
      #186133 - 20/07/11 06:55 AM

I had posted pictures of this rifle's being built earlier along with pictures of several other rifles from my friend Joel Dorleac. The 404 has finally been completed and it is with its owner, presumably waiting to be blooded in Africa. from Joel's e-mail:

Quote [Hi Mehul,

The 404 Jeffery is now finished.
You will find some photos here, but their quality isn't up to the rifle.
We have taken great pleasure in doing that project in the spirit of the true working English rifles of the past.
The action is a very interesting one, being the sole Original Mauser with front flat top only and solid wall I have ever encountered.
When I find it, I noticed that the rails were widely opened and I think at the .404 Jeffery Rimless as evidence…the remainder is just a lot of work !
The barrel is 25" long and the stock is from an old Tessier French walnut piece (circa 1975).
Notice that the rifle has been treated as a using one, not for show and the only engraving are on scope bases, grip cap and screws. All the parts were rust blued with some hardened in color, the extractor blade and the ejector spring being nitre blued.
With Norma ammo it shoots a cloverleaf all the day...
Hope you will like it.

Take care.

Curious to know why the ring bridge was not used to mount the front scope base rather than a saddle mount on the barrel.

Mr. Dorleac,

Can you divulge who made the magazine/trigger guard assembly for this rifle?
Thanks
Matt

Think we used a FZH blank on that project.
They make very fine one piece magnum magazine you can get in the white to work on.
We have also used Duane Wiebe bottommetals and they are of superb quality.

Best.

dons; As you see the scope is quite long and front square bridge position is relatively far from scopes front end so you just couldnīt use this type mount with it. For example, swing mounts you could.

After many many years have witnessed Dorleac Mauser projects here on NitroX leads me only to conclude this gunmaker seeks nothing but perfection in every detail. Had any one asked me 15 years ago about a Mauser98 made by a french gunmaker I would have thought of french car. I have since Monsieur Dorleac has started posted his rifles eradicated any thought in regards to French cars and think now only on beautiful french woman.

Jens,

You are on absolutely the right track, my friend.

Guess which extended family Catherine Deneuve, and the late Francoise Dorleac belong to.

There's more than a little beauty inspiring our good friend, and his relentless quest for perfection. And, of course, there can be few gentlemen like him!

Good hunting!

I was only thinking of Dorleac yesterday. If I wanted a classic .275 Rigby styled rifle made for me, Joel Dorleac would be the first I would turn to, to see what could be done.

The examples he has blessed us with of his work are true usable works of gunmaking art.
