9.3x63 Miller & Val Greiss

9.3x66 Lapua type of caliber of it's era in 1910-1930's, 9.3x63 Miller & Val Greiss, made by surprise as signed on octagonal to round full length raised matt sighting rib 'MILLER & VAL. GREISS KGL. BAYR. HOFGEWEHRFABRIK - MUNCHEN'. Having a bead fore-sight with flip-up moon-sight, rear-sight with adjustable standing leaf for 100 and 200 metres and folding leaf for 300 metres and fitted with a Voigtlander Braunschweig 'Skoparette' 4x telescopic sight in quick detachable tunnel claw mounts and also with a sprung aperture peep-sight on the tang. No need to purchase a new Sako on 9.3x66 Lapua, do have my challenge already to get the ammo's for this one, well a positive problem with this rifle I've to say.

Beautiful rifle, but I have never understood the rationale of the extension attached to the trigger guard. Does it have to do with giving support to the trigger finger in connection with use of the set trigger? I have seen Schuetzen rifles with that kind of arrangement, and have understood that that was the reason.

It escapes me how you could get a firm grip on the small of the stock using only the ring finger and the little finger, with the trigger finger on the trigger and the middle finger on the extension. The power of the 9.3X63 cartridge would seem to demand a firm grip.

Wow - terrific rifle in a truly unique chambering.

For my own clarification, the 9.3x63 Miller & Val Greiss is based on the 10.75x68 necked-down and shortened, right? If I am mistaken on this, please correct me and if you have any further details on this cartridge, I'd love to hear them.

Yes, the 9.3x63G is based on the 12.97mm =.495" 10.75x68 case. Effectively it is the older 10.75x63 case necked down. The 9x63 Florstedt case was instead based on the standard 12mm = .473" Mauser base, which makes it so similar to the later .35 Whelen.
Apparently the same rifle was described by Mats Bergholm in the Dec.2005 issue of the SA MAGNUM magazine. The loads mentioned by Bergholm gave 2580 fps with the 286gr Norma Oryx or the 320gr Woodleigh at 2435 fps.
