God Son’s day in Colorado
      #318840 - 06/08/18 02:05 PM

My nephew (and God Son) took a short trip to Spinney Reservoir today and did pretty well.
The trout is what’s known here as a Cutbow. A hybrid Cutthroat and Rainbow.
Saving that for trout almandine.
The Pike he sent back although one that size can make a decent meal too. Sort of wished he had saved it...

Those are dandy fish. The other vut-bows I've seen were also deeper then normal for rainbows and quite thick as well
NICE

Same Nephew, this time ice fishing with his little boy.

I really like this photo because of the stars which is unusual because this reservoir is quite close to highly populated areas and the ambient light makes nights like this rare.
That, and of course because he is taking his son fishing!

How thick was that ice???

Probably just the lighting, but man it doesn't look that thick??

Never been one for ice fishing, but I'd sure like to put some Burbot fillets in the freezer.
I prefer it to "properly" cooked halibut - and THAT is the best one out of salt water.

Locally, right now, the lake ice is thick enough to run my 1-ton diesel on it 13" to 16".
I don't, but THEY say it's thick enough. Someone always goes through, on that lake.

Be careful of the thin spots!

Well done to your Nephew & his lad - both will treasure that experience!
I don't blame the Uncle for being so proud of them either - certainly a privilege to be savoured.
Just the though of that ice makes me feel cold - brave buggers!

If you're ever over by Dillon, throw a line in Clark Canyon Res. You won't be disappointed.
You would want a boat though.

Yes - I still remember & treasure fishing for Yellow Perch at Longbeach, Ontario on Lake Erie, with my dad.
For lunch, we (Dad, Taylor & I) shared a large can of baked beans. That was lunch, with water.
