What a georgous piece of wood. Love it.
Bit steep for a 22 Savage though.

Hard to tell for sure from the poor photos, but it sure looks like a Webley A & W C. Quite a few of Gibbs double rifles were.

Beautiful rifle, but excuse my ignorance. What is that contraption in the little leather box in last photo???

Also, can anybody give a faithful English translation?

Thanks,

Has to be some type of aperature sight.
I can't see how it would mount exactly, maybe in the rear claw base.

It is very similar to my Manton.
Don't underestimate the power of the 22 Savage HP! In a different class than the 22 Hornet.

The online translator I use doesn't give me much...

Double can of George Gibbs, Bristol. Made probably about 1930 (the precise date is to be found out no more, because all documents of the manufacturer from this time were destroyed). The caliber 5,6x52R (Savage) is original (see stamp). The fastener is also steady with taken Vorderschaft. With ejectors. Run length 53.5 cms, the runs are reflecting-shining. Original shaft (length 36.5 cms up to the front deduction) of wood grained lively and nicely and with engraved Schaftkappe from metal. In the gun clutch lift-up lid. Very good, not measured engravings. Mounted with bald 2 7 fold from steel with double Absehenverstellung (paragraph 1) and with soldered wheel assembly. Total weight with ZF approx. 3.8 kg. Total length 95 cms. In addition, still with original auxiliary optics (with manufacturer's name engraved). In the original leather suitcase, this it was adapted merely for the ZF and his belts are renewed. It concerns all together around führige and very well-preserved weapon with only low use tracks.

Just my humble try:

"Double rifle by George Gibbs, Bristol. Made probably around 1930 (exact date can not be confirmed, as all the manufacturer’s documents from this period have been destroyed). The calibre is 5.6 x52R (Savage) and it is original (see stamp). Breech is tight. With ejectors. Barrel length 53,5 cm, barrels in mint condition. Original stock (length 36,5 cm - LOP) made from beautifully grained wood and with vividly engraved metal pad. Hinged pistol-grip cap. Very well preserved engravings. Mounted with Kahles 2-7x, with dual set (horizontal and vertical adjustment) reticle (German No 1) - soldered “Schwenk” mount. Total weight with scope is 3.8 kg. Total length 95 cm. With additional original auxiliary optics (with the manufacturer's name engraved). Original leather case, that was only adjusted for the scope. Straps have also been renewed. It is a very handy and very well preserved rifle with just a few scratches."

IMO "auxiliary optics" are binos with some kind of mount - I guess just to spot on the range?

93Mouse,

Thanks for the translation.

Barrels are really short at 53.5 cm (21"). Makes for the short overall length of 95 cm (37.4").

It's a really interesting rifle.

Could that device be some sort of regulating jig? Can't see how it would suffice for an aperture sight. Just curious.

Ok try No2 - now I am almost certain that there are 3 gadgets inthere - on the left 2 different peep sights and the one on the right looks like a fine tuning rear sight adjuster ?
