9.3x74r shooting and reloading

Hi all,

I've been working with some handloads in my 9.3 and I've come up with a great load: 286 Woodlieghs, and 63.5grs of 4350.

1-1/2" (4.5mm) at 100 (91m) with 4 shots!

Just wanted to crow a little bit

Nice group.
The 286 Woodleigh Soft is a great bullet for deer to cape buffalo.

Yes a great load, I used the same one in my Merkle O/U for quite some time. It also works well with solids, and I killed everything with it on my first trip to Zim, including my Cape.

Thanks guys!

I'm using the IMR 4350. I had groups almost as nice with the 4831 (2-1/2" at 100). The 4350 also gave nice results with the 270 Speers, 2-3" groups at 100. I'll post some additional pictures of these targets shortly.

As Curly knows its taken me awhile to wring this level of accuracy out of it

I've not been able to check velocity yet. It’s a long story, but to cut it short it’s very difficult for me to use a Chronograph at any of the shooting ranges in my area. The one range I can use it I can only do it if I'm lucky enough to be alone on the range (rare), and also if I shoot at 50 yards instead of 100. I do my load work on this rifle at 100 mostly so... I do know from previous tests of similar loads its in the 2200-2300fps range, though that’s not that precise...

Chasseur,

You did mention solids: what is the load to use with 286gr woodleight solids out of a Chapuis 9.3x74R?

Do you think they will group similar to the norma softs they use to regulate the gun?

...drawn in front of own experiences I do not think that IMR-4350 is the optimal powder for loading the 9,3x74 R (some of the faster burning powders seem to be rather the optimal powders)....

take a look on this exceptionally fine site...(for information: the N-203-B is in the burning class of IMR-4320 to IMR-4064, Rottweil R-903 to R-907; same or more velocity as with IMR-4350, but with less recoil...):
