4 bore brutality at its best...
      #71487 - 14/02/07 05:14 PM

This guy on the right looks like he got stuck in the head when the barrels launched Mahamad Ali style.

That looked like the grin factor was a 10 for the shooter. A 1 for the catcher.

The reason this 4 bore kicked so much, is because it doubled! OUCH!

That was John Millar shooting the gun. He also built it. He is one of the finest craftsman in North America. The second guy was not hurt bad.

Now that was definitely a good video shot. It ranks right up there with all the vid's that Saeed has. Just gotta love that big, deep-throated BOOOM!

If you don't know who John Millar is, that says enough. How many 4 bores have you shot! Try stopping your finger from hitting the rear trigger, that is, if you shoot a mans gun. No 500's and less need speak. Anything shooting over 6 drams of powder is not any easy weapon to control. This is not a case of no intercepting sears.

Now now gentlemen...

Shall we settle this one with a round of skeet behind a 4b double?

Now I'm quite willing to admit that I have never even seen a four bore in the flesh let alone ever having fired one, but...
With all due respect to the gent firing that cannon, I have to say that I have never seen anyone else mount a big gun the same way he does.
If you take a look you'll see he starts out with the barrels pointing at the sky, then pulls the gun to his shoulder with the barrels still way up in the air, then he lowers the gun down to take aim.
The ONLY other place where I've seen that type of gun mount used is with clay target shooters.
His stance is way too upright with too much weight on the back foot IMO.
I'm not disrespecting the guy at all, just making an observation.
He may well be a very good gunmaker but I just have to wonder how much big bore rifle shooting he has done previous to that video being taken.
One thing for sure is that there is no shortage of recoil with that gun!

That video is a keeper.

It is also a fair reminder to stand back.... way back from a shooter.

I would like to know though... how badly was Miller's shoulder injured... and what about the guy smacked in the face with the barrels, that had to leave mark!

Did not increase my desire for one. I think 8 bore is plenty of double double big fun for my tastes. I'm having alot of fun with my 12 double.

Obviously, he has no experience shooting the biggies. He's lucky the rifle didn't land on the deck and get damaged.

Actually Mr. Miller has quite a bit of experience shooting big bore doubles. His 4 is one massive and heavy gun and held up ( much better than he and the bystander)to the doubling. I am sure his shooting style would not be in question had the gun not doubled(thats about 700grains of black igniting).

Sinner, I do appreciate you sending your business elsewhere as John is behind on several projects for me right now.

Your very welcome, I am glad to help the safety of other shooters whenever I can.

I have never shot a 4 bore .... does that mean I'm not a man?

If so, I see some expensive counselling in my very near future.

DT,
No need for therapy! Not having shot a 4 bore does not mean your not a man. It simply means you have not shot a man's gun!
