WTK The rifle Patterson used on the Tsavo lions
      #64072 - 16/10/06 06:35 AM

I am sure I will get a few emails telling me that Col. Patterson was not such a big guy and that I should know of the other African named lions that killed many more people before being hunted down..... BUT the Patterson story is interesting and as I have just now ordered his book, I was wondering if someone could tell me the rifle(s) he used while on he was hunting the railway/Tsavo lions? Thanks

Patterson used a .303 British Lee Enfield. Standard issue.

fanofdbls

You should enjoy the book as it is high adventure. If you are thinking it is like the movie you will be pleasantly surprised to find out it isn't.

I came away from reading the book with one main question though. How did he manage to actually kill the Lions and survive?

Very good. Thank you guys.... gotcha, an original Military Enfield. I know in the film Patterson (Kilmer) uses a nice Lee Speed .303.....looking forward to reading Patterson's book.

Patterson used a Martini to kill the last lion.

Depending on whether you are building a library or just want a book to read the story try www.abebooks.com. I found 251 copies from a used paper back for $1.41 plus $3.58 shipping to a First edition for $2500 plus $4 shipping in the US.

Iqbal's right. With Mickeys signature on it, a first edition should fetch at least $3000.

Not to mention the added value of having his grubby fingerprints on all the pages.

You know, I try and be nice and all I get is sarcasm. Igbal and Erik, you guys should be ashamed of yourselves.

And when you have read that, buy In the Grip of the Nyika
I have fine condition first editions of both. You should not pay more than £150 for each. Try
