I think with all the information, cost and value of the product,is a big concern. the Merkle looks to be the winner. I believe that 470 will be the choice of caliber, but still undecided. I have handled the Merkle and the searcy, but would love to test one of them out, the recoil will be the decision factor.

Is there any gun dealers out there that let you put two down range?

Or can anyone comment on recoil. is it like a heavy load slug 12 gauge, or worse.

You might want to try to find a Searcy/Merkel owner and shoot theirs.

Not too familiar of gunshops letting people shoot "new" guns. And it is hard to find a Searcy at a gunshop. They are out there, just not in large numbers like the Merkel.

The recoil of the 470NE will be an eye opener, for sure!I'd say a 12 ga heavy slug load isn't a good comparison.

A heavy game rifle that weighs in at the 10-10.8 lbs pushing a 500 gr bullet at 2150 fps, is going to let you know when it goes off! It will not hurt you, if you shoot it right, but you need to stay away from shooting benches, and shoot from hunting positions. If I can shoot them you can shoot them. Don't think you are going to break something when you shoot it, but you wont have to ask the guy next to you if it went off!
