Just recieved a cataloge from John Rigby co and they included a article on regulating barrels. I believe the article was from Double Gun Journal. Anyone out there handled one of these rifle's They look very attractive and the price starts in the 23k and up.

Barrels by Pac Nor, action by Merkel (20 Ga frame). More than double the cost of a Searcy for no reason I can see.

I don't know about the barrels, but Peter is definitely correct about the actions... I know b/c I tried to import a barreled action from GSI and they told me what was imported for rogue river (owner of "rigby" name).

Buy a B. Searcy PH model for $10K, made to fit you, and have a better rifle! Find a used Merkel 470NE and have the same action with chopper lump cold hammer forged barrels for around $8K,or new for $10.5K if an off the shelf rifle will fit you,and have a better rifle than the Rigby, IMO!

Don't get me wrong there is nothing worng with the Rigby DRs that about a $12K cut in price wouldn't help, because it is worth around $11K, and no more as a starting model. Even at the same price, I'd much rather have #1 the Searcy, or even #2 the merkel!

Nothing wrong with PacNor barrels as Butch uses them too. But, for double the price, you want something special

How Paso Robles Rigby can justify an extra 12k for the
Rigby name is beyond me.

IMHO, the name doesn't mean anything anymore
on the current crop of offerings as they are not
"best guns" any more.

Buy a Merkel if that is what you want or a Searcy.
