How about "Double Trouble"? That thing looks like a big clunker and probably weighs more than a 700NE. Where do you come up with stuff like this, anyways?

A double in .700 N.E. weights at about 8,5 Kg - so is therefor heavier. But I also smile when I read what the manufactor wrote: "WEIGHT: 7,5 KG, WELL BALANCED." .
I am not sure if this man has ever spend some time in Africa.

I think it costs ## thousand dollars, plus an annual expense of $500. The $500 is for the blackamatic gunbearer.

Only about 16 lbs. Military people must be tougher than african hunters. A BAR with ammo weighed around 40 lbs with the BAR alone around 18lbs. They were carried ALL day and the game hunted (man) is probably the deadliest on earth. When I was in they were greatly appreciated although in all honesty no one really wanted to carry one. I had a Thompson which with clips was well over 15lbs.

Dude, you forget one thing, you were much younger and had much more stamina at that age. I got "volunteered" to carry the squad mortar baseplate for a couple of quick jaunts out of AIT. This was along with the basic M-14 and all the assorted gear that goes along with a jaunt or two. It wore me out and I was bitching every step of the way going just a "hill and dale" or two.

Compairing these two very differant situations doesn't quite float! When guys are young and in uniform, they do what has to be done, like it or not. I had the "pleasure" of carring a MG-3 for long periods of time years ago, weighing about 25 pounds bare, plus all the other gear, backpack, ammo and so on. And I can honostly say that lots of the knee, ankle and back problems I have are thanks to that period of time. Hunting on the otherhand is for the fun of it, and although a hard hunt is good fun in my book, there is no need to go overboard and sustain permanent damage to ones body! JMHO.

All true. But a foot soldier is a professional athlete, while most guys who hunt Africa spend the rest of the year behind a desk or working in a hospital. And by the time guys have money to hunt Africa, they are usually a bit older than the typical grunt.

Some years ago when working on an article I contacted Hannes Fanzoj at Johan Fanzoj and he told me that theyw ere building this gun. I checked back at the website yesterday and saw pictures of it there - I had to post them after that, didn't I?

They did put a lot of effort into the gun using Bohler Super Blitz steel for the barrels to make them substantially lighter than if they ahd used Rasant steel. That said, I guess if whoever ordered it was strong enough to tkae it out hunting, I'd say hat's off to him! I would never be able to do that at my age and with my health but would cheer the man on for shooting with such a novel gun.

When that movie first came out, I was enthralled. There's plenty of action and the acting by all was very good. This is among one of only a few movies I'd watch again and again. When I heard the lines first being spoken by the old King's bride before burial at sea, I vowed to get that down on print somewhere. It's only taken me a few years.

I am reluctant to pursue this post any further but cannot help but make a few observations. I was NOT a professional athlete when I was drafted and the Army did not make me one. When I was in most of the people I knew were just average and from all walks of life and by no means professional athletes.You took PT but only during basic training and after that only occaisonally. There are millions of workers who labor daily under loads far greater at ages well over 50. The implication here is that hunters are all white collar desk chained people who are without any fitness attributes at all. I find this very elitest at the least and insulting to all who spend the best part of their lives laboring at worst.

Well I`m not elitist either......but I`m damned if I want to carry a 16 1/2 lb rifle around all day !
Obviously a superb technical exercise by an excellent gunmaker but it comes pretty low on my list of `must haves` ( Like well off the bottom of the page ! )

I don't know about when you were in the army, but when I was in if you weren't deployed you did PT just about every day.

Johan is a very nice guy and makes exceptional guns. This was obviously made for a client to order and not on spec. I agree, I keep guns not much over 10 pounds.

Have you ever seen the double barreled bolt action rifle? The action was made from titanium to keep weight down but was still 13 1/2 pounds. The barrels needed to be titanium, too. But what a neat gun.

Wasn't that Gerhard Fuchs who makes Joseph Szecsei's designs? I didn't know that Fanzoj make them?

Yes, I agree, Johan and Hannes are wonderful people who have some of the best attitudes to people who enquire about their guns. I know that from extensive personal experience.
