Watson Bros....
      #13708 - 20/04/04 06:03 AM

Can anyone point me to some informatin regarding the history and guns of Watson Bros or Watson & Sons (I think its Watson Bros), one of the members here (AfricanHunter) has a 450-400 from them that my dad and I are thinking of buying... (ok ok ok, its his money!!!) and just wanted to get a little better handle on what exactly it is that we are looking at... I've handled the gun and it is quite good, as it everything else in Leroy's collection, but I am always looking for more information.

Thanks in advance... and may the addiction flourish!!!!

I am slow to see this but will add my 2 cents. Watson Brothers have been around a long time. I have a fine 19th Century BLE that I am restocking. I also have a Martini in 297/230 Morris made by them. They are still in business in London. Their new shotguns are about $40K or were before the dollar dropped against the Euro.

Are you shooting your Watson in the Morris caliber? I am looking for some load suggestions.

I almost had some ammo from the Old Western Scrounger, but it was mislabeled and actually 297/250. It is easy to make from 22 Hornet brass. You simply shorten it to 0.6" or 0.8" for the short or long versions of the cartridge. The reloading info I have basically makes it a .22LR centerfire cartridge. The Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions suggests 3 grains of Unique for 900'/sec in the short version with a 43 grain lead bullet. The say: Make from 22 Hornet, Run hornet case into 25 acp die until shoulder is established at.35" dim Neck ID may need reaming. Not necessary to FL size, 40 gr bullets. Fun little gun

Thanks Peter, I bought brass from Buffalo Arms and dies from CH4D. I have been shooting the Unique loads. I was just looking for something else.

I am lining the barrel on one that was rotted out and I am going to try V-Max bullets.

Oops sorry dasMafia for hijacking your topic.
