WR hammer doublerifles...

..howcome we never see hammer express doublerifles from Westley Richards?..I have seen one for sale in a period of 15 years.
Just wonder..

Interesting question. Now I wonder that as well.
I found this, tho it likely has more to do with Westley-Richards guns as opposed to rifles.

Probably because William Anson was Foreman of Westley Richards’ Gun Action department.
So, Westley Richards adopted the Anson & Deeley hammerless action much earlier than most other makers.

I have a WR Hammer Cape rifle in .577/450 and 12 bore that WR told me was made in 1903
It has a top lever action and is posted here somewhere
Very plain, probably a "budget" rifle for the South African market with the usual 1000 yard multiple sights

does a 10-bore count?

A bore rifle, is not really an express rifle though?

PS No I STILL have not shot it! One day soon ...

That could very well be a reason.

The hammer WR bpe rifle I saw for sale on GI was a .500ex with barrelmarkings that said the rifle was regulated for the WR longrange bullet 570grain , charge 120grain. The gun weighed 10,5 ibs. Wished I had bought back then, but my cashflow was in a low tide.

I just like these ol’ bpe doublerifles and I am in the marked to buy another one when the right one pops up. I am just one of these persons who don’t know what to buy until it pops up right in front of me..lol

Have the gun any markings in regards to charge and bulletweight?

I just read your old thread, very interesting.

What caught my eye was that your rifle was “Made for P. Orr & Sons, Madras & Rangoon”.
I have recently acquired a Cogswell & Harrison Certus rifle in .450/.400 3 1/4” that is also marked; “Made for P. Orr & Sons, Madras & Rangoon” in line with the usual Cogswell & Harrison line on the barrel.

Don’t see too many guns and rifles here with the P. Orr & Sons marking. Perhaps more commonly found in Oz?
