Some time ago I seriously pondered building a set of 22LR barrels to fit my son's 410 side by side. I thought a 22 would be an excellent DR to learn on and be easy and fun to shoot without dealing with a lot of weight and recoil. I also thought having the same stock, grip, LOP, trigger pull, feel, etc as the shot barrels would be an advantage in learning.

Because I still wanted to use the 410 barrels I couldn't offset the firing pins, and pondered several methods to make RFs work, but eventually decided a small centerfire would be easier all around and still achieve the goal of cheap to shoot,zero recoil, light, and easy to shoot.

When I finally accepted the fact that I've got more gun projects in the works than any one man could reasonably get finished in a lifetime, I sent blanks and 25-20 reamers to Ellis Brown in CO. Following are photos of his excellent work and the gun's progress to date.

Currently the rifle is back in AK and is polished and in the white. It was regulated for 75gn bullets at 1950 fps using AA1680, which should be an excellent small game/plinking load. I had the opportunity to fire just a few pairs the other day before I was almost immediately called away by an emergency, so I didn't have an opportunity to chrono or check regulation yet. I've got a bunch of Speer 75gn flat points and Hornady 75gn V-maxs loaded but unfortantely it will be a couple of weeks before I can get back to shoot (work rears its ugly head again). I've also mounted a 2.5x leupold in qd rings to try out.

I'll post more info and chrono/regulation results as time and work permit, along with more photos when the barrels eventually get blacked. I'm really excited about this fun little double and can't wait to get it out in the field.
