Any online steel suppliers you could suggest?

Hi all,

I'm going to try my hand at building a back action lock, but am finding it really difficut to source some suitable steels here in South Africa. None of the companies I have approached have got back to me, probably because the quanitites I need are too small.

Any suggestions for an online source for 1018 bar, 4140, 8620, 0-1 Tool steel etc, that would supply in small quantites and sizes?

Any advice appreciated thanks!

Hi guys, thanks for the suggestion! I looked into Mcmaster but unfortunately they don't ship outside of the US. For those interested I did find www.onlinemetals.com and www.speedymetals.com seem to offer a good range in sizes that are useful. MSC too.

Hello twobob! Not at this stage I'm afraid, although I'd be happy to share some plans etc with you when I get round to designing it. I'm still trying to organise some raw material at this stage. MSC looks like the best bet so far. This is the lock I'm going to use as a basis for the design (Cptn Curls beautiful Rigby 360 Double...hope he doesnt mind me pilfering a pic!).

Tenn, I have a look on Ebay for sure.

I order from MSC all the time for work and have also made personal purchases with them.
They are a great company to deal with.
