Hi all I was just worunding if anyone could tell me if a .730 size slug would fit iside a new 12 gage shot shell. I have been working on building a 12 bore dubble and would like to use the # 399 nie mold when it come time to refulate it but doin't know what the inside of the shell will take. if that is to big to fit what is the largest that could be used? Thanks Tom N

More important to match the slug to your bore or rifling grooves, depending on what you are actually building. The loaded cartridge then has to be a drop-in fit to the chamber.

Most people say its best to get a mold to cast slightly oversize and push through a sizing die for uniform dia and concentricity.
Plastic shot-shell hulls are flexible and should take a .730 slug no worries, without sticking in a normal 12-bore chamber. I load .735 slugs routinely for a nitro paradox. I even made a hand-tool to flare the case-mouth slightly to make them easier to seat in the hull. Still roll-crimps onto the Fosbery shoulder just fine.

You merely need to measure inside diamet3er of various plastic hulls, paper or brass to see what they will take.

Different makes of plastic hulls have differing thicknesses of plastic as well. Some are straight sided inside, some have tapered thickness hulls and might require different sized wads, etc.

Since a person needs a good set of calipers to load ammo, everyone has at least one set.
