I have been offered a Purdey .410 Hammer gun on phone!

I have never heard or seen one.

Expert comments????

When it comes to English makers, anything is possible,
especially someone like Purdey.

I am sure I have seen pictures of a 410 Hammer Shotgun by Purdey.

My suggestion is get a look at it ASAP and verify it.

I have Just emailed Purdey with serial Number.

Lets see what they have to say about it

Have you seen the gun ?

Does the Serial number check out with the approx dates
of what we would expect of a hammer gun (for Purdey) ?

I have not seen the gun myself its almost 800 miles away

Yes the serial number is 15**

A 4 digit serial number ?

That would make it 1820's !!!


however if you meant "15***" then that
would make it after 1890.

Yes I know of a purdey with 84** it is 1870 so i think your right lets see what purdey has to say about it.

I have reconfirmed the number on the phone and he says it is 15**

I just heard from Purdey and they said the number refers to a 16 bore muzzle loading shot gun made in 1829.

After raising my voice little on phone the dealer who offered me the gun was able to read "Lyon" on the rib so it might be one of those made by "Lyon & Lyon" and James Lyon did work for Purdey

Thank you .500 Nitro alot of time and money saved!
