Big SMOOTH Bore

There was a time when I never would have considered anything without rifling as a Big Bore. "Of course" (I thought) smooth bores have a large bore; but they arent meant for anything besides shot and certainly not for dangerous game...amazing how much Ive learned.

One of those "things" is that nothing with four legs is dangerous at 100 yards. Ive passed my how far can you shoot phase, now Im more interested in how close can you get. Another one of those "things" is that a big heavy ball or conical is just as good (maybe better) than a tiny speeding bullet for stopping angry beasts at close range--lets call it the "Crush Factor".

As Im writing this Im contemplating a 577 Martin and turning an old single shot 10 gauge into a slug gun. Last year I stumbled onto a SxS 12ga that shot like a rifle at 50 yards. I took it to Texas and it was a Hog slayer for sure. Im looking forward to the 10 gauge and 577 being just as good
