Wish my 86/71 was chambered for the .50-110, instead of .45/70.
Make a nice "newer" mate to my 1876 in .50/95.

found this pretty funny. Talk about exaggeration and complete and utter bullshit.

"In his book, The Winchester Lever Legacy, Clyde Williamson discusses the awesome power of this cartridge. He quotes a Canadian hunting guide who shot a charging thousand-pound bear at a range of 15 yards with a 450-grain bullet. The guide stated that the animal was “thrown for two back flips, shot through and through the long way, and instant dead, without a head shot.” The same bullet was recovered eighty yards downhill after it had passed through a six-inch jackpine and lodged in a second tree.

Just finished watching the video. Interesting. My model 76 in .50/95 in smokeless powder, puts the 368gr. FP cast bullet out at 1,650fps and with 80gr. Swiss 1 1/2 BP, at 1,580fps. With 78gr. 3F GOEX, the velocity with the 368gr. is 1,640fps.
I have a new 377gr.DC mould from Accurate Moulds (thanks for the suggestion Mike) but I have not cast any up with it, just yet.
Had to correct the vel. with the 300gr.FP Buffalo Arms bullet, it was 100fps higher for the smokeless load.

I think Clyde was prone to a bit of exaggeration!

I have one originally produced in 45/70 built in November 1886 according to the Cody museum,
serial number 1001 the early models have a locking stud on the lever
It now has a 28 inch badger barrel in 50 /110 express and an original tang peep sight
when I first saw this rifle in Wisconsin some 20 years ago it was a real junker. the barrel was half octagonal to round with express sights. found neglected and unloved in the corner of a Canadian gun shop.
I have a NEI mold which throws a 300 grain gas check bullet using lynotype
According to cartridges of the world the 300 gr express bullet should travel at 1600 fps
I got a surprise when I put it over the chrony and got 1960 fps consistently using 110 grns of Goex cartridge ,no sign of excess pressure at all
I have alot of fun shooting this rifle

I had a friend who has passed now, name was Berning, who had a very large and very impressive collection of guns including dozens of Winchesters. (Don't tell me farming is a poor mans occupation). Any way he had an original 86 in 50-110 and it was very nice indeed. But what sticks out and this is maybe 20 years ago, he had a Winchester loading tool for the 50-110 and he told me that he paid a $1000 for it. He said the tool was rarer then the rifle itself.
Just thought you might be interested in that tidbit of info.
